The XML ToolWorks for Word Plug-in

XML ToolWorks for Word Plug-in imports and exports XML with Microsoft Word. Using the sophisticated processing power of our XML ToolWorks engine to make complex dtd xml decisions, in conjunction with our style mapping, ToolWorks seamlessly imports and exports valid xml data every time and easily handles any range of document types - from the simplest to the most-complex.

On export It creates valid xml if you use a dtd (it works with any DTD) or outputs hierarchical and well-formed xml if no dtd is involved. On import it reads in XML data and perfectly styles and formats your Word document.

But that’s not all. XML ToolWorks imports and exports images, Word tables, special characters, and, used in conjunction with MathType from Design Science, incorporates MathML equation descriptions into the xml output from XML ToolWorks. Numbered lists, bullets, indenting, footnotes are all routinely mastered by XML ToolWorks powerful processing engine.

Set-Up

XML ToolWorks can be set up to provide import-only, export-only, or roundtrip XML workflows.

Prior to beginning import or export whether for a single document or a batch, some administrative set up is required. A map file is created one-time for a class of document types. The map-file associates styles found in the document types with XML element names and XML hierarchies. We have a Map-builder tool to make creating a map easy!

If you are using a DTD, you link it to the map file.

Converting, exporting and importing

Thereafter, the map and dtd are used by our engine to create the XML. If you use a dtd, the ToolWorks will write valid xml conforming to your dtd. For work not involving a dtd XML ToolWorks creates well formed and hierarchically correct xml.

On import XMl ToolWorks creates perfectly styled Word documents.

It’s that simple.

Authoring, creating or editing content

Content creators are not required to have copies of the ToolWorks Word plug-in on their machines. Authors and editors can use standard MS Word and using standard Word styling features and the XML can be exported at some later point in the workflow.

In other words, there is no requirement for content creators to have the XML ToolWorks plug-in unless they want to work directly with the XML output file created by XML ToolWorks.
