MetaNotes Plug-In for Adobe InDesign
Associates metadata at both document and content level. XML export targets any DTD or schema.
MetaNotes™ is a metadata editor and forms-builder plug-in for Adobe InDesign™. MetaNotes unique functionality is that it associates metadata at both the document level and the content level and that any of the metadata can be nested.
The new offering meets the specialized publishing requirements of book, newspaper, magazine, and STM publishers. More generally, anyone using InDesign and incorporating XML at some point in their workflow, whether for export to a content management system, a learning system, or any other type of database can benefit from MetaNotes.
Increase Collaboration and target any DTD or schema
Using metadata in a publishing workflow increases collaboration and communication between the creators, contributors, systems and assets, that typically span the production process. The XML output from MetaNotes is user-configured and may be targeted to any standard or proprietary DTD or schema.
Metadata form fields are customizable and multiple forms can be created for use in a document. Forms fields are editable and searchable and can be viewed by any InDesign user possessing the MetaNotes plug-in. When an InDesign document is saved the MetaNotes metadata is saved along with it, and travels with the document wherever it goes. The XML output may be exported at any time.
Key Functionality:
- Associates metadata at both the document and content levels
- Metadata can be associated with any level of content, either a graphic, or a text block or string
- Metadata can be nested, incorporating metadata within paragraphs, sentences, strings, words or characters
- Metadata is exported in XML and may be configured to target any DTD or schema
- Metadata form fields are user customizable and multiple form fields can be configured for a document
- Forms fields are editable and searchable
Extend Traditional Uses of Metadata
MetaNotes can be used to create, edit, and manage traditional document level metadata such as publisher and publication information. Where MetaNotes surpasses the built-in capability of InDesign is in it’s capability to associate metadata with content, within a paragraph, string, or character. As MetaNotes forms builder is easy-to-use is and completely customizable, it meets any special customer requirements.
Educational publishers can use MetaNotes to help prepare NIMAS compliant XML versions of print textbooks. Other publishers offer learning system technology and need to associate skills or learning-levels with content, or to indicate whether a true or false response is the correct choice on a test page. MetaNotes can be used to attribute sources to quotes, reading levels to paragraphs, and even cross references within a document. STM publishers will appreciate MetaNotes configurability to conform to any dtd. Newspapers can target NewsML or AdsML
